Our Mission
Welcome to A+ Advanced Learning and Test Prep Centers, where we have made it our mission for students, young and old, to face the future with confidence. Why would a student not be confident? There are many reasons. Some would argue that it is difficult to be confident with a lower IQ, others would argue that students are under too much pressure, others might even argue that their child was never well formed academically in the first place. However, classical education, both East and West teaches us that many academic deficiencies can be overcome with good academic habits and a repertoire of skills that enable a student to handle a variety of situations and difficulty levels. As a sort of remedy to effectively deal with so many deficiencies and even turn them into strengths is a coach with the depth of knowledge and level of skill to show students the way. Simply speaking, we have two goals for our students: 2. To learn and effectively use good academic habits so that they excel in all of their classes and even future professional endeavors. Surely, raising a child in the competition we face in the world today is a daunting task, but not one insurmountable if we strategically use the tools at our disposal.
1. To master systematic and critical thinking strategies that enable to maximize their performance on standardized tests, particularly in grammar (including writing), reading comprehension (including vocabulary), and mathematics (through pre-calculus).
In short, we are in the habit of producing the student and professional of tomorrow who can compete in a very competitive world.
Our Instructors
At the heart of the SAT/PSAT Curriculum we find three subject areas- Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Our instructors, Michael DiSalvo, MA eq. and Madhu Sanakari, MBA have unique backgrounds that enable them a comfort level in reaching students of various backgrounds and abilities level with many concepts that may seem abstract or difficult for many people. First, Michael DiSalvo, founder of A+ Tutoring/Test Preparation comes to us with a specialty in Reading Comprehension and Writing. Having graduated with an Excellence in English distinction from the nationally-recognized St Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Michael went on to specialize in creative writing in college. Being forced to excel in test-taking techniques for the many PhD programs that demanded high standardized test scores in reading comprehension skills, Michael later added to his writing and reading comprehension skills by finishing up what would amount to 12 years of foreign languages in Spanish, Italian and Latin. His intense study of SAT material helped him earn the name the “SAT MD”, and live up to the title by helping his students into the 99th percentile not only on the SAT but also on the ACT.
Madhu Sanakari, MBA, comes to us with a strong background in Math and Science, rounding out Mr DiSalvo’s more Western emphasis on the arts and letters (including philosophy) with the more Eastern emphasis on Math and analytics. Mr Sanakari’s academic credentials are impressive. For his outstanding academic performance in high school (even from the 7th grade), he received the National Merit Scholarship and graduated with high honors. His achievements did not stop him but helped him go on to earn the Gold Medal and Certificate for Academic Excellence with a 4.0 GPA from the esteemed MNIT in India. Mr Sanakari then completed his MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati to introduce him to a stellar career as an IT specialist and manager. Mr Sanakari has also shown himself to be a capable teacher. In 2006, all of the students he prepared for the SAT scored above 700 in their Math sections. This should not be surprising as he himself received perfect scores in the Math sections of the GMAT and GRE.

A+ Advanced Learning Center currently offers three tracks, all oriented at superior academic performance in Math, Writing and Grammar skills, especially for the PSAT and SAT standardized tests. Our program has been most typically compared to Kumon Learning Center’s approach of emphasizing the basics, though Kumon does this, so to speak, individually. In a classroom setting from their instructor, but also from each other. The competitive advantage of learning along side of peers, we believe, enables students to learn from others strengths and weaknesses, and give them confidence that they, too, can excel as many of their peers do. We always have two classes that are active that proceed in six month cycles with open enrollment. We also have periodic SAT courses that lasts ten weeks which are more like what one would typically expect at a Princeton Review or a Kaplan . The difference is that we hope to offer a chance for students to interact with their instructors and learn from one another, instead of receiving only feedback from a graded test.

All three of our tracks are focused on essential skills that have allowed the students of Mr DiSalvo to achieve results into the 99th percentile on respective areas tested. The long-term PSAT skills course has two tracks: SAT Mastery 101 for younger students (6th-8th graders), which is more focused on the Algebra and Pre Algebra in the Math portion, and SAT Mastery 102 for the older students (8th-10th graders), which approaches challenges with Algebra 2 and Geometry earlier in the course. The SAT 101 class is meant to be a four-year program which deals comprehensively with all the verbal, mathematical and grammatical types of skills and problems that are associated with the PSAT and SAT and for standardized testing in general. The SAT 102 class, though less thorough, is meant to be a two-year program which deals comprehensively with all the verbal, mathematical and grammatical types of skills and problems one that are associated with the PSAT and SAT and for standardized testing in general. The more traditional ten-week SAT prep course is a favorite choice for many students getting ready for test day. It is recommended for students in the 10th-12th grades, who need the complete SAT preparation course in a short amount of time because they want a score that will count. 1.
